By Buffalo Exchange Berkeley

On a typical Sunday at the Berkeley Buffalo Exchange you can find mother and daughter duo Nicole and Zelda shopping the racks looking to score great vintage pieces and punky platform boots. They are hard to miss, because they have such innate yet effortless style, although totally different from each other, but equally enchanting. We here at the store have found ourselves excited to see what cool jumpsuit Nicole will be wearing and what great accessories Zelda will rock. I took a few minutes to chat with them about some of their style inspirations and what gets them excited about fashion and shopping resale.

Nicole has been working in vintage on and off for years, even running a vintage store in Sacramento at one point. Now she sells via Etsy. Her current passion for clothes lies somewhere in the middle-ground of vintage and a more modern and minimalist aesthetic, hence the love of vintage work-wear jumpsuits. “My favorite piece in my wardrobe currently is this vintage Agnes B zip up jumpsuit.” And her favorite recent Buffalo finds? “I’ve found some great Black Crane and Raquel Allegra pieces at the store lately.” Her accessories are minimal, but they pack a subtle punch. Her crisp leather jacket, chain earrings (which she made herself!), and classic Ray-Ban wayfarer glasses create a sleek effortless look all her own.

Zelda, Nicole’s teenage daughter, is way cooler than any teenager I knew when I was in high school. She confidently wears strong and quirky accessories like studded cuffs, giant Demonia platform boots, and mink collars (complete with a little furry face!). “My style inspiration comes from looking at Japanese street style and the punk scene in Japan.” Her favorite piece in her wardrobe is a dress she actually got from Japan! I asked her if she could pick any decade to live in, what would it be? “The 1940s or the 1920s.”
